For Immediate Release
Monday April 10, 2017 (St. John’s NL)—-The Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of School Councils (NLFSC) is pleased there were no huge cuts to education announced in last week’s provincial budget, but say status quo is not good enough – especially given harsh cuts in last year’s budget.
“Our membership is telling us their schools are struggling. Class size has increased and the academic needs of many students are not being met.” says NLFSC President Paulette Fifield. “We realize education is constantly evolving, but there is no greater investment to the future progress of this province then providing our children with a quality education. More resources are needed!” Unfortunately in the breakdown of the provincial budget Education still accounts for one of the smallest portions of the budget. This needs to change if we are going to ensure a quality education for our children.
